When the University upgraded Church Street on the East Bank of campus in 2017, the University Gateway Corporation agreed to create a plaza/patio area where Church Street intersects with Scholars Walk. The project included an elevated patio area with tables and seating at one corner of the intersection and additional table/seating groupings at other points on the intersection to create a comfortable plaza area. Retaining walls and landscaping were also added to the existing plant material to mesh with the surrounding campus walkways and Scholars Walk.
